Carbondale Man Held on Federal Firearm Charge

Andre V. Scott, 31, of Carbondale, IL, was arraigned in federal court in Benton, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Scott was charged by indictment on November 6, 2012, with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. At a court hearing on November 13, 2012, Scott was ordered held without bond pending a January 14, 2013, jury trial.

The offense is alleged to have occurred on July 29, 2012, in Carbondale, in Jackson County. The firearm offense carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, 3 years’ supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 upon conviction.

Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson for prosecution.
