Watertown Man Sentenced in Firearms Case

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Watertown man charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person was sentenced on November 5, 2012, by US District Judge Charles B. Kornmann in Aberdeen.

Michael Angel Aguirre, age 40, was sentenced to 12 months in custody. Aguirre was indicted for possession of a firearm by a person subject to a court restraining order and possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance by a federal grand jury on April 4, 2012. He pled guilty to the second charge, and the first charge was dismissed.

Aguirre was found to be in possession of a Hi-Point .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun. He admitted he was a frequent user of marijuana.

This case was investigated by the Watertown Police Department, the SD Division of Criminal Investigation, and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant US Attorney Connie Larson prosecuted the case.

Aguirre was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
