Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Willie Dean, 23, and Tynoice Baker, 24, both of Madison, Wis., were sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Conley for committing an armed robbery of Heller’s Recycling in Madison on May 29, 2012.  Dean was sentenced to 144 months in federal prison, to be followed by a five-year term of supervised release.  Baker was sentenced to 54 months, to be served consecutively to a probation revocation that has yet to be imposed in Dane County Circuit Court.  Baker’s sentence will also be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. Baker and Dean pleaded guilty to these charges on October 10, 2013.

The Heller’s robbery was captured on video camera and showed co-conspirator Traveon Spencer enter the recycling center armed with a shotgun.  Spencer ordered several employees and customers to the ground, while pointing the shotgun at them.  A camera in the office area of the center showed co-conspirator Donnie Taylor-Young and Dean enter the office wearing masks.  Dean was carrying a sawed-off shotgun and he pointed it at close range at two female employees.  Baker was the getaway driver.

For their roles in the offense, Spencer was sentenced to 92 months in prison, and Taylor-Young was sentenced to 72 months in prison.

The charges against Dean and Baker and the others involved in the robbery were the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.  The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
