Multiagency Law Enforcement Search Warrant Seized 4.4 Kilograms of Heroin and $127,000

TULSA, OKLAHOMA— On December 17, 2013, six people were arrested after search warrants were served by federal, state, and local law enforcement in a concerted effort to reduce the distribution of heroin in Tulsa County. Five of the six arrested were found to be unlawfully in the United States. The multiagency law enforcement effort seized approximately 4.4 kilograms of heroin, $127,971 in cash, three vehicles, and 27 mobile phones. This amount of heroin has an approximate value of $700,000 on the street.

Heroin is an opioid drug that is made from morphine and has powerful pain-relieving properties. The short-term effects of heroin include clouded thinking and shortness of breath. Users may also contract HIV/AIDS or hepatitis from a shared needle, slip into a coma, or death.

This is part of an ongoing investigation of the distribution of heroin in the Tulsa County area by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with assistance by the Tulsa Police Department; Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation; Drug Enforcement Administration; and the Broken Arrow Police Department.

Each person arrested is presumed innocent and the facts presented must be proven in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
