ATF, Firearms Industry Offer Reward in Chicago Firearms Theft
CHICAGO — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Chicago Police Department (CPD), and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, announced a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft of firearms from a Norfolk Southern freight container in Chicago. ATF is offering a reward in the amount of $5,000 that will be matched by the NSSF for a total reward of $10,000.
This reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF reward in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers. ATF works closely with members of the firearms industry to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.
Thirteen (13) Smith & Wesson M&P Sport Rifles were stolen from a shipment from a Norfolk Southern freight container parked in the rail yard located in the 6100 block of S. Lafayette in Chicago between May 4 and 6.
Anyone with information about this crime should contact ATF toll free at: 1-844-CHI-ATF1 or (312)-846-8870. All calls will be kept confidential.
