Stratford Man Who Manufactured Explosive Devices And Silencers Sentenced To Federal Prison

MADISON, WIS. – John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Tyler M. Perkins, 25, Stratford, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 63 months in federal prison for possessing firearms and ammunition as a felon.  Perkins pleaded guilty to the charges on April 9, 2014.

On January 27, 2014, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Perkins’ residence in Stratford.  Officers located six loaded firearms, a homemade zip-gun, a homemade silencer, and two homemade improvised explosive devices.  One of the firearms was stolen.

Perkins has a prior felony conviction for the manufacture and delivery of marijuana.  The United States requested a sentence at the top of the advisory sentencing guideline range of 63-78 months.

The charges against Perkins were the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Wausau Police Department; and Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.  The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith P. Duchemin.
