Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Donald J. Soranno has been named the new special agent in charge (SAC) of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Columbus Field Division, which encompasses the entire state of Ohio and the southern half of Indiana.

Soranno began his career with ATF in 1990 as a special agent in Detroit and most recently served as the deputy director of the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC), located in Quantico.

In 2006, Soranno was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Chicago Field Division where he oversaw operations for four criminal enforcement groups, as well as the division office personnel. Prior to that, he served as a supervisory special agent within the Chicago Field Division, overseeing field agents and task force officers conducting complex investigations. Soranno also completed two separate tours through ATF headquarters where he managed firearms, explosives and administrative programs. He was also a member of ATF’s Crisis Negotiation Team which is deployed with the agency’s Special Response Team.

“I am pleased to lead the ATF Columbus Field Division in its efforts to combat violent crime,” said Soranno. “We will continue to actively investigate the criminal use of firearms and explosives, and strive to make our communities safer for the people who live and work there.”

In 2010 Soranno attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy as part of the 242nd session. Soranno was the first federal agent selected in 2012 to be a Leadership Fellow with the FBI Leadership Institute in Quantico.

Soranno received the Arthur S. Flemming award for Excellent in Government in 2002. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University as well as a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
