Reedsburg Man Sentenced to 24 Years for Robberies

Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Keith Gary, 46, Reedsburg, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 24 years in federal prison, followed by a three-year term of supervised release, for committing six robberies, one attempted robbery, brandishing a firearm in furtherance of robbery, and unlawfully possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Gary was also ordered to pay $2,350 in restitution. Gary pleaded guilty to these charges on April 29, 2015.

Gary attempted to rob the McDonald’s, West Broadway, Monona, on October 29, 2014, and he committed robberies at the following Madison businesses in 2014:

  1. Klinke Cleaners, Odana Road, on September 18;
  2. McDonald’s, Verona Road, on September 21;
  3. Klinke Cleaners, Park Street, on September 22;
  4. Arby’s Restaurant, Gammon Road, on September 24;
  5. Sally Beauty Supply, Whitney Way, on October 4; and
  6. Papa John’s Pizza, East Washington Avenue, on October 29.

During the September 18 and September 21 robberies, Gary brandished a firearm. On November 13, 2014, Gary was arrested in Reedsburg and a .32 caliber revolver and ammunition was found in his car.

Prior to committing these robberies, Gary previously had been convicted of eight robbery offenses in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The charges against Gary were the result of an investigation conducted by the Reedsburg, Monona, and Madison Police Departments; Dane County Sheriff's Department; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
