ATF identifies and investigates individuals and or criminal organizations that utilize firearms in furtherance of illicit activity or supply firearms to prohibited individuals, while simultaneously initiating efforts to address and prevent the diversion of firearms from lawful commerce into the illegal marketplace.

  2. ATF assesses current firearms trafficking trends and anticipates emerging trends in order to provide ATF personnel the policy, information, resources and training needed to detect, investigate and successfully prosecute firearms traffickers.

  3. ATF  uses Crime Gun Intelligence to identify current firearms trafficking trends and patterns in order to provide actionable intelligence to ATF personnel.

The goal of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) firearms trafficking enforcement efforts is to reduce violent crime by restricting the flow of firearms to violent criminals. To accomplish this, ATF identifies and investigates individuals and or criminal organizations that utilize firearms in furtherance of illicit activity or supply firearms to prohibited individuals, while simultaneously initiating efforts to address and prevent the diversion of firearms from lawful commerce into the illegal marketplace.
 
The mission of the Firearms Trafficking & Interdiction Branch (FTIB) is to assess current firearms trafficking trends and anticipate emerging trends and patterns in order to provide ATF personnel the policy, information, resources and training needed to detect, investigate and successfully prosecute firearms traffickers. 

FTIB provides complex investigative support to ATF personnel in identifying, investigating and dismantling persons and criminal organizations engaged in illegal firearms trafficking or those who utilize firearms in furtherance of their criminal enterprise.  FTIB exploits its subject matter expertise to develop policies, procedures and strategies to support ATF’s enforcement and regulatory efforts in accordance with ATF’s mission objectives.

FTIB uses Crime Gun Intelligence to identify current firearms trafficking trends and patterns in order to provide actionable intelligence to ATF personnel. FTIB supports field division objectives by analyzing current regional/divisional violent crime patterns and generating trend based assessments that are designed to identify and encourage the deployment or realignment of ATF criminal and regulatory resources in furtherance of ATF’s mission objectives.
