Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent William Edwin Collins and Deputy Sheriff Samuel Duhon were ambushed during a still raid near Vinton, LA.  Both law enforcement officers were killed and their bodies were placed inside their Government car, which was then driven miles away in an attempt to disguise the actual location of their murder.  Three suspects were later taken into custody and prosecuted on State charges of murder.

Background

Agent Collins joined the Prohibition Unit on February 26, 1923, with an annual salary of $1,800.  Previously, he was a school teacher.

Agent Collins was born in Plain Dealing, LA.  He was survived by his wife, Mallace.
