Sheriff Olaleran Mohammed was charged in June 2014 for smuggling firearms out of the U.S. (one count of violating 18 USC 554) and providing false information to a federal firearms licensee (17 counts of violating 18 USC 922(a)(6) and 18 USC 924(a)(2)).
Sheriff Olaleran Mohammed, who at the time resided in Minnesota, purchased a number of firearms, providing false statements to federal firearms licensees. The firearms were later hidden in a vehicle to be exported to Nigeria. They were discovered and seized in Spain. A warrant was issued for Mohammed’s arrest which came a month later in Atlanta, Georgia, upon his return to the U.S. from Nigeria. Mohammed was tried and convicted of smuggling and providing false statements. While on pre-sentence release, Mohammed failed to appear in court, resulting in his fugitive status.
