ATF and Firearms Industry Offer $10,000 Reward in Shelby Gun Thefts

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the burglary of American Tactical and Pawn, a federal firearm licensee (FFL) in Shelby, N.C. ATF is offering a reward of up to $5,000 which will be matched by the NSSF for a total reward of up to $10,000.

On Nov. 27, 2016 at approximately 1:48 a.m., the Shelby Police Department responded to an alarm at American Tactical and Pawn located in Shelby at 227 East Main Street. Officers determined that two unknown suspects had gained entry into the business, smashed several gun display cases and stole various calibers of handguns. This theft followed several reported FFL break-ins in that same time frame where no firearms were stolen. ATF is working with local law enforcement authorities to determine any possible connection in these cases.

Anyone with information about this crime should contact ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (800-283-4867), email, or contact ATF through its website at Tips may also be submitted to ATF through the ReportIt® app, available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store, or by visiting All calls and tips will be kept confidential.

ATF, along with our law enforcement partners, is committed to ensuring that our communities are safe and that those who commit violent crimes such as this are held accountable. The reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF rewards in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers. ATF works closely with members of the firearms industry to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.
