Lawrence E. Davis

Location of Death:  Inman, South Carolina




Special Agent Lawrence Davis and Pilot-Lt. Roy White of the South Carolina National Guard, departed in a military plane at 2:15 p.m. from the Spartanburg airport.  They planned to conduct aerial surveillance of still activity around Inman, SC. For unknown reasons at approximately 2:45 p.m., their plane crashed in a field near the Compton Bridge Road just north of Inman.  Both Agent Davis and Lt. White were killed instantly.


Agent Davis joined the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division (ATTD) on 4/28/1952.  He was stationed at offices in Elizabeth City and Wilkesboro, NC; prior to his transfer to Spartanburg, SC. Previously, he was a police officer in Honolulu, HI, and Greensboro, NC. Agent Davis proudly served in the U. S. Navy during WW-II.


Agent Davis was born in Forest City, NC.  He was survived by his wife, Helen and their two children, Christopher and Sandra.
