The National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) is the only national network that allows for the capture and comparison of ballistic evidence to aid in solving and preventing violent crimes involving firearms.
Using NIBIN, our partner law enforcement agencies at the local, state, tribal and federal level can submit their cartridge casing evidence and seized crime guns into the network, allowing them to quickly identify possible matches with criminal evidence entered by other jurisdictions.
ATF has worked to place the program in strategic locations of the country. As of November 2021, there are 258 active NIBIN sites across the United States, including 8 ATF sites.
