Circumstances of Death

Special Agent John W. Bost III succumbed to his injuries resulting from an accidental discharge and was laid to rest in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Background

Special Agent Bost began his ATF career in 2005 and was assigned to the Seattle Field Division, becoming the sole ATF agent working in Maui, Hawaii. His office was embedded in the Maui Police Department, where he worked closely with our partners. In 2012, he was selected as the Federal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for the State of Hawaii. He was recognized for his incredible work ethic, strong team spirit, and for the respect, trust, and admiration his investigative work had earned throughout the community. Prior to beginning his career with ATF, Special Agent Bost graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2000 with a degree in Criminal Justice and served as a police officer for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, NC, Police Department.

Personal

John is survived by his parents, John William Bost, Jr. and Joyce Bost; his brothers and sister-in-law, Matthew, Adam, and Miryam Bost; his nephew, Gavin Bost; and his significant other, Eren Kamiyama.
