Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Willie Saylor was transporting several prisoners including Lloyd Littrell, to jail for possession and transportation of illicit liquor.  As they drove near Pineville, KY, Bill and John Littrell, father and brother of Lloyd, had blocked the road with their automobile.  They demanded that Agent Saylor release Lloyd. Agent Saylor refused and a gunfight erupted.  Agent Saylor and Bill Littrell were killed, while Lloyd and John Littrell were wounded.

Background

Agent Saylor joined the Prohibition Unit on January 15, 1923, with an annual salary of $1,600.

Agent Saylor was born in Harlan, KY.  He was survived by his wife.
