Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Charles Orbra Sterner and local officers were searching for moonshine on the grounds of the Sharpshooters Park & Club near St. Louis, MO.  As they searched, someone shot at them from a nearby building, seriously wounding Agent Sterner.  He was rushed to the local hospital, but died seven days later.  Although a number of suspects were immediately rounded up and arrested, the individual responsible for Agent Sterner's death was never identified.

Background

Agent Sterner joined the Prohibition Unit on January 30, 1922, with an annual salary of $1,800.

Agent Sterner was born in Prairie Hill, MO.  He was survived by his wife.
