Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Howell Lynch, accompanied by a local deputy sheriff, raided a still near Gainesboro, TN.  During the raid they were fired upon from ambush and Agent Lynch was killed.  A suspect was never identified.

Background

Agent Lynch joined the Prohibition Unit on October 13, 1921, with an annual salary of $1,500.

Agent Lynch was born in Carthage, TN.  He was survived by his wife.
