These benefits apply to all job series. Specific information is provided to those interested in becoming special agents and industry operations investigators.

Paid Time Off

Employees are eligible for several types of paid time off including annual leave, sick leave and federal holidays. Employees earn 13 to 26 days of annual leave per year based on their length of federal service.

Sick leave is earned at the rate of 13 days per year, and it does not include a maximum limit.

Employees receive 11 paid federal holidays each year. Some employees who are required to work during federal holidays are eligible for premium pay.

Health and Life Insurance

ATF employees may choose from a variety of low cost health insurance plans through the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. They are also eligible to enroll in vision and dental insurance plans available through the Federal Employees Dental/Vision Program (FEDVIP).

New employees are automatically enrolled in Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) and may decide to waive or decrease their life insurance coverage as needed.

The Federal Flexible Spending Account Program (FSAFEDS) is a tax-deferred program that allows participants to pay for out-of-pocket health care and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Retirement

All new federal employees are eligible to receive retirement benefits once they meet the minimum retirement age set by OPM.

All new federal employees are automatically enrolled in the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS). This three-tiered retirement plan combines federal retirement, social security and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), which is similar to a 401(k) plan.

Employee Assistance Program

ATF is aware of the potential stresses that may impact employees’ daily lives. All employees and their household members will have access to ATF’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services, which provides free, confidential counseling and resources for resolving childcare, eldercare and other work-life balance situations.
