Moravia Man Sentenced to 41 Months for Unlawfully Possessing a Short-Barreled Rifle

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Duane Hollenbeck, 54, of Moravia, New York, was sentenced today to serve 41 months in federal prison for possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle.

U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman, Janeen DiGuiseppi, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and New York State Police Acting Superintendent Steven A. Nigrelli made the announcement.

As part of his previously entered guilty plea, Hollenbeck admitted to possessing an unregistered AR-15 style American tactical rifle. The rifle, which had a barrel length of less than 16 inches, was not registered to the defendant in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, as required by federal law.

Chief U.S. District Judge Brenda K. Sannes also sentenced Hollenbeck to a 3-year term of supervised release, to begin after his imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the New York State Police, with assistance from the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey J. L. Brown prosecuted the case.
