The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 requires agencies to publish proposed information collections in the Federal Register for public comment before an agency can use the process (generally a form) to collect information from the public. The proposed information collection was previously published in the Federal Register on April 12, 2018. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act, this notice provides 30 days for public comment on the extension without change of an existing collection. The proposed information collection pertains to the documentation of certain sales or other dispositions of handguns for law enforcement purposes, and determines if the buyer is involved in an unlawful activity, or is a person prohibited by law from obtaining firearms.
