Salina Man Sentenced for Three Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
Today, U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell sentenced David Olice Sitsler, III, for three counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country. Sitsler, 36, was sentenced to 96 months, followed by three years of supervised release. Judge Frizzell further ordered Sitsler to pay $625 in restitution.
In February 2022, Sitsler was in an argument with his wife. She called a friend to pick her up. When she tried to leave, Sitsler shot at the car she was in, hitting one of the passengers.
Sitsler is a citizen of Cherokee Nation. He will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Mayes County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney George Jiang prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities and measuring the results.
