Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

SANTA ANA, California – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) worked together with local law enforcement to arrest an individual suspected in conducting four armed robberies of GameStop retail stores in Orange and Los Angeles counties. The armed robberies occurred between August and October 2018.

The suspect, Frederick Lopez, Jr., 27, of Downey, California, was arrested at his residence without incident yesterday.  ATF agents recovered a firearm and materials that appeared to be related to the robberies at Lopez’s residence during the search warrant. The robberies resulted in the loss of more than $135,000 worth of merchandise, GameStop employees’ personal cellphones and cash.

Lopez will appear in court today and is expected to be charged with a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1951(a), interference with commerce by robbery.

Lopez is a suspect in the following robberies:

1. GameStop, 10930 Long Beach Blvd., Lynwood, on August 28, 2018 at approximately 8:10 p.m.;
2. GameStop, 17420 Colima Road, Rowland Heights, on Sept. 15, 2018 approximately 9 p.m.;
3. GameStop, 2360 S. Azusa Ave., West Covina, on Oct. 24, 2018, at approximately 8:55 p.m.;
4. GameStop, 2515 East Imperial Highway, Suite B, Brea, on Oct. 26, 2018 at approximately 9:10 p.m.

“ATF will continue to work to reduce violent crime by targeting these individuals and dismantling these robbery crews who pose the greatest threat to public safety,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge of Los Angeles Field Division Carlos A. Canino. “Through collaboration with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners. We will identify and remove these violent offenders from our streets.”
