Two St. Paul Men Charged with Illegal Possession of Firearms

United States Attorney Erica H. MacDonald today announced a federal indictment charging DERWIN IDELL MOORE, 33, and KEVIN KAREEM WHITE, 36, with one count each of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.1 The defendants will be arraigned on November 26, 2019, before Magistrate Judge Becky R. Thorson in U.S. District Court in St. Paul, Minnesota.

According to the allegations in the indictment, on August 11, 2019, MOORE and WHITE were found to be in possession of firearms. MOORE possessed a Canik model TP9DA 9mm semiautomatic pistol and WHITE possessed a Smith & Wesson model M&P Shield 9mm semiautomatic pistol. Because MOORE and WHITE have prior felony convictions, they are prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms at any time.

This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the St. Paul Police Department. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement to combat violent crime. This case is also part of Project Guardian, the Department of Justice’s signature initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Calhoun-Lopez is prosecuting the case.
