Lafayette Man Sentenced to 57 Months Imprisonment for Federal Gun Offense

NEW ORLEANS — On Nov. 29, U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo sentenced Davon Eugene to 57 months in the Bureau of Prisons for possession of a machine gun and being a felon in possession of a firearm in violation of the Federal Gun Control Act, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.

Eugene was indicted on Jan. 22, 2021 for possessing a machinegun, a Glock Model 26, 9 mm handgun, bearing serial number XPT053, equipped with a Glock auto-sear, while being a convicted felon. Eugene will serve 57 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities and measuring the results.

U. S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Rachal Cassagne of the Narcotics Unit.
