$10K Reward for LA Train Gun Heist
ATF, NSSF seek leads on suspects who stole hundreds of firearms
LOS ANGELES–The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms industry -- are offering up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who stole hundreds of firearms and gun parts from Union Pacific freight trains traveling through the Los Angeles area in early to mid-June.
“Stealing firearms endangers every neighborhood those weapons pass through,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge Kenny R. Cooper of the Los Angeles Field Division. “We’re determined to shut down this black market pipeline and hold the offenders accountable. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact ATF at 888-ATF-TIPS (888-283-8477), email ATFTips@atf.gov or contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, Thermal Station, at (760) 863-8990. Information can also be reported anonymously to Riverside Sheriff’s through Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP (7867) or to ATF through www.ReportIt.com or through the Report It mobile app, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. To be eligible for the reward, tips must lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. If seeking a reward, individuals must provide their name and contact information. ATF is offering a reward in the amount of $5,000, which will be matched by the NSSF for a total reward of $10,000. This reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF reward in cases involving theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms dealers. ATF works closely with members of the firearms industry to curb criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.
This case is being investigated with Riverside Sheriff’s Office - Thermal Station, Los Angeles Police Department – Cargo Theft Unit, and the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department.
