April 29, 2026: Landmark Regulatory Reform Package - 34 Proposed & Final Rules
As part of ATF’s commitment, the agency recently published a landmark package of proposed rules representing the most significant modernization of ATF regulations in the agency’s history. These proposed rules take a common-sense approach to modernizing regulations and forms and reducing burden on law-abiding businesses and citizens alike. Public comments are encouraged during the open comment period for each rule.
April 29, 2026: DOJ and ATF Announce Regulatory Reforms to Reduce Burdens on Law-Abiding Gun Owners and Businesses
WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is releasing this week 34 notices of final and proposed rulemaking following a comprehensive review of existing regulations conducted in compliance with Executive Order 14206, Protecting Second Amendment Rights. Consistent with ATF's commitment in 2025 to rebuild trust with Federal Firearms and Explosives Licensees (FFLs/FELs) and industry stakeholders, this review included a consideration of industry and expert feedback and concerns. This landmark release is the first in a series of regulatory updates ATF plans to issue.
March 6, 2026: ATF, FBI, Imperial PD Seek Tips in 2017 Homicide
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Los Angeles Field Division is contributing $5,000 toward a joint reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of those who were involved in the homicide of Yunique Marie Puckett (nee Dorme). In the early morning of Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, an arson investigation uncovered that a residential fire was set to mask the homicide of Yunique Puckett and destroy evidence.

ATF is pleased to provide you with the newly reformatted 36th Edition of State Laws and Published Ordinances – Firearms (ATF P 5300.5). Having replaced the sometimes lengthy and cumbersome text documents of previous editions, the 36th edition now provides easier to navigate tables which include succinct law or ordinance titles, associated legal citations, and direct hyperlinks to each state or territory’s provided reference library. These publications will help you comply with federal and state firearms laws and, specifically, with the Gun Control Act of 1968.
