Buffalo Man Sentenced for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and a Violation of Supervised Release

BUFFALO, N.Y.-U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. announced today that Rai Johnson, 36, of Buffalo, N.Y., who was convicted of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and violation of supervised release, was sentenced to 26 months in prison by U.S. Senior District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Aaron J. Mango and Scott S. Allen, Jr., who handled the case, stated that in August 2014, the defendant was sentenced to time served and two years supervised release for violating the Clean Air Act. On December 23, 2014, Johnson was found to be in possession of a shotgun, a rifle, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition that he kept hidden from his probation officer. The United States Probation Search Team recovered the firearms and ammunition during a search of the defendant’s residence. The search occurred after Johnson negligently discharged a round into his neighbor’s house while attempting to clean his rifle.

The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-In-Charge Delano A. Reid, New York Field Division.
