The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 requires agencies to publish proposed information collections in the Federal Register for public comment before an agency can use the process (generally a form) to collect information from the public. The proposed information collection was previously published in the Federal Register on December 26, 2019, allowing for a 60-day comment period. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act, this notice provides for an additional 30 days for public comment on the revision of a currently approved collection. The proposed information collection pertains to the Firearms Transaction Record/Registro de Transaccion de Armas de Fuego, Form 4473, that allows Federal firearms licensees to determine the eligibility of persons purchasing firearms. It also alerts buyers to certain restrictions on the receipt and possession of firearms.
