The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 requires agencies to publish proposed information collections in the Federal Register for public comment before an agency can use the process (generally a form) to collect information from the public. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act, this notice provides 60 days for public comment on the revision of a currently approved collection. The proposed information collection pertains to the ATF Form 4 (5320.4) that is filed to obtain permission to transfer and register a National firearms Act (NFA) firearm. A transfer without approval and possession of an unregistered NFA firearms are illegal. The approval of the application effectuates the registration of a firearms to the transferee.
