Circumstances of Death

U.S. Treasury Special Agent Jacob "Jake" Green, along with Richton, Mississippi's Town Marshal Lawrence Dunnam were gunned down while attempting to shut down an illegal moonshine still on Piney Woods Creek in Greene County, Mississippi.

During a gunfight with moonshiners, Agent Green was fatally shot in the head at close range. Marshal L. Dunnam was also shot down and then received four additional shots to his back. 

Moonshiners Henry Bond and Mancy Kelly were sentenced to hang for the murders of the officers. Moonshiner Johnny Adams was sentenced to life, Will Morris was sentenced to three years, and Sid Baggett spent time in prison for participation in the murders of Jake Green and Lawrence Dunnam.
