Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Oscar Carl Hanson and Deputy U.S. Marshal Edward F. Flannary were riding in a Government vehicle when they were struck by a train at a railroad crossing in Humboldt, SD.  Both men were killed instantly.  Weather, snow and sleet, was considered a major factor leading up to this accident.

Background

Agent Hanson joined the Prohibition Unit on November 2, 1925, with an annual salary of $1,860.  He was assigned to the office in Watertown, SD.

Agent Hanson was born in La Crosse, WI.  He was survived by his wife and their eight children.
