Staffing and Budget
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is a world-class law enforcement organization committed to safeguarding lives by protecting the public from violent crime. ATF protects the public from crimes involving firearms, explosives, arson, and the diversion of tobacco products; regulates lawful commerce in firearms and explosives; and provides worldwide support to law enforcement, public safety, and industry partners.
In fiscal year (FY) 2024, ATF had 5,322 employees, including 2,572 special agents and 857 industry operations investigators. Its FY 2024 enacted budget was approximately $1.6 billion.
